By way of promoting calm, the city firefighter working security outside Club Cinema on Friday evening told eager ticketholders, “It’s not Eric Clapton, it’s Johnny Depp.”Still, actor Depp was a major reason for the long line and the air of excitement at the big strip-mall nightclub on Federal Highway. The Miramar teen turned Hollywood icon had come to town to jam his old mates in a rock band called the Kids.Depp fans would have to wait, however, until well after midnight to find out whether he is Edward Scissorhands on guitar, or if he can still rock like a Kid from the ’80s.Depp, coming onstage with his three bandmates at 12:30 a.m., had no trouble handling his portion of the Kids’ springy, guitar-centered brand of power pop. While the foursome opened its headlining set energetically, Depp cut a fairly laid-back figure – apart from the plaid kilt he wore – and concentrated on his guitarwork through the screams coming from the packed floor. |

There have been multiple adaptations of the mystical story Alice in Wonderland–Tim Burton is scheduled to put his spin on the classic story with his new film Alice slated for release in 2010. An unknown Australian actress has won the title role in Burton’s eagerly awaited adaptation, according to WENN. Teenager Mia Wasikowska is set to hit the big time after being picked to play the heroine in the movie version of Lewis Carroll’s classic. The director is reportedly lining up long-time muse Johnny Depp to play the Mad Hatter in the film. And newcomer Wasikowska, 18, will be treading on the toes of Lindsay Lohan, after the Mean Girls star reportedly begged Burton not to choose an unknown for the role, insisting she was “”ideal”" to play the part. Wasikowska says, “”I’m so so excited. The book’s really intrigued me when I was little and I’ve always loved the story. I really love (Burton films) Edward Scissorhands and Big Fish.”" Earlier this year, Wasikowska was chosen as one of only two Australian actresses to receive a Heath Ledger scholarship, a fund to help young up-and-coming Aussie performers in memory of the late actor. Johnny Depp`s old band The Kids is getting back together, but only for one show. The Kids will play a benefit gig later this week in Florida. The Sheila Witkin Memorial Concert is in honor of the mother of The Kids` Bruce Witkin. The Kids were around Florida in the early 80s but split before ever signing a deal. Although they never had any commercial success, they did once open for Iggy Pop.The Kids` reunion is the second gig the band has done in recent years. They also reformed in 2007 for the first Sheila Witkin Memorial Concert. It is unlikely we will see a world tour or new album out of this. Deep has 6 new movies on the way over the next two year, including possibly Sun City 3.A Kids album might be a nice idea though. Maybe Johnny should take note of Tom Petty`s recent Mudcrutch release. Mudcrutch was Petty`s band before the Heartbreakers. They broke up in the 1975 before ever making an album.Last year, Petty took Mudcrutch into the studio and recorded that debut album. Warner released it in April. [Source] |
