When the comic book creator, Mark Millar, tells Tony Scott that he fancies those two actors for the movie adaptation, the helmer says he is going to ‘give them a call’.

Mark Millar’s hope to get Brad Pitt and Johnny Depp to portray the two lead characters in “Nemesis” has got a positive feedback from the movie’s director. When appearing on Richard Bacon show on BBC Radio Five Live, the comic book creator is asked whether those two A-list actors are going to star in the feature film and he replies, “That’s who the director’s going after, yeah.”

“Tony Scott, brother of Ridley Scott… I just got a call from him, literally about a month ago… it was one of those very surreal things,” Millar reveals his conversation with the movie’s director. “This is a $150 million budget… he said ‘Who do you fancy for it?’… I said ‘I dunno, Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp’ so he said ‘That’s good, we’ll give them a call’.”

Millar previously stated that Pitt would fit to play Blake Morrow while Depp should portray Nemesis. He told Empire Online, “With Nemesis, you’ve got two great roles for two A-list stars… The thing is, one guy has to be as good as the other. You’ve got Holmes versus Moriarty here or Batman versus The Joker, so each one has got to be a $20 million actor, really. I think you could go for the A+ list and get Johnny Depp as Nemesis and Brad Pitt as Blake Morrow.”

On his choice, he went on explaining, “[Blake Morrow] He’s Commissioner Gordon meets Sherlock Holmes, so it’s got to be a big physical policeman who you feel could stand up for himself in a physical fight. It’s got to be somebody who can take a punch. You couldn’t really get anybody who’s too cerebral. He’d have to be a very physical actor so it would need to be a Pitt. Or maybe even a Liam Neeson.”

Millar added, “When I was writing the comic, I genuinely saw Johnny Depp as Nemesis. He’s a thin-faced guy, slightly creepy, a cross between Heath Ledger and Christian Bale, and someone who could pull off both those things at the same time is Depp. He would get it. He goes slightly crazy in his roles!”

“Nemesis”, based on Mark Millar and Steve McNiven’s comic book limited series of the same title, follows a man with Bruce Wayne type who decides to turn into a super villain instead of a superhero. The movie project, however, is still in very early stage with no scribe hired to write the screenplay.

Brad Pitt is currently shooting “Moneyball” which will be his next starring vehicle after appearing in “Inglourious Basterds”. Johnny Depp, meanwhile, has been in Hawaii for the production of “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides”. He can soon be seen in “The Tourist” which is due December 10 in the U.S. [Source]

Rumored to hit in December earlier this year, it looks like Sony/Columbia have indeed slotted Florian Henckel Von Donnersmarck’s “The Tourist” for a December 10 bow.

A romantic spy drama based on the 2005 French film “Anthony Zimmer,” this U.S. version (directed by Von Donnersmarck (a German and the same man behind “The Lives Of Others”) follows a bumbling American tourist (Depp) as he finds himself romantically involved with an international spy (Jolie) in what sounds very much in the vein of a Hitchcockian tale, but likely isn’t the case (it’s a fun little story, but isn’t all that meaty). Some sites will tell you that this means “The Tourist” is chasing an Oscar bid, but clearly they haven’t read the script. While not bad by any means, certainly enjoyable, and the version that will hit the screen is probably less fluffy than the version we read, Sony’s move is probably more akin to Warner Bros. placing “Sherlock Holmes” in December last year. The holiday season has become the new tentpole month and “The Tourist” should be engaging, but escapist entertainment that does well at the box-office, but is unlikely to pull in any Academy statuettes. Timothy Dalton, Steven Berkoff, Paul Bettany and Rufus Sewell co-star in the pic which shot in Venice earlier this year. [Source]

Johnny Depp and Tim Burton are pretty much a match made in–well I was going to say “heaven,” but that might not be the right word. It’s not hell either, but rather some weird and dark place in between with lots of hairspray and makeup. They’re teaming up on their eighth movie together and according to Deadline it will begin shooting this January. The movie is Dark Shadows and is based on the 1960’s serial television show of the same name.

The Dark Shadows movie has been on the table for a couple of years now and the premise is right up the Burton/Depp creepy alley. The original 1960s-70s television series had a gothic feel with a number of different monsters making appearances, a relative first for daytime television. Six months into the series the vampire character Barnabas Collins (Jonathan Frid) showed up and helped to boost ratings. Depp will reprise the role of Collins in the movie remake which, if it stays true to the television series, will feature an assortment of zombies, werewolves, ghosts and witches.

Depp and Burton last teamed up on Alice in Wonderland. Depp is currently filming the next Pirates of the Caribbean installment while Burton is in pre-production on Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. Seth Grahame-Smith wrote the novel and screenplay for the latter and is lined up as writer for Dark Shadows. [Source]

In the next “Pirates of the Caribbean,” Johnny Depp’s seafaring character Jack Sparrow will face a woman from his past and board another buccaneer’s ship, the studio behind the film said on Monday.

The Walt Disney Co revealed those story elements for the new film as it announced that production has started.

“Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” is the fourth movie in the franchise, which to date has earned more than $1 billion at U.S. and Canada box offices. It will hit theaters in 3-D on May 20, 2011.

In the movie, Depp’s popular Sparrow character will run into a woman from his past, played by Oscar winner Penelope Cruz, Disney said. She will force Sparrow onto the Queen Anne’s Revenge, the legendary pirate ship run by Blackbeard, who will be played by Ian McShane.

Once on-board, Sparrow will need to keep an eye out on both Blackbeard and Cruz’s character.

Both McShane and Cruz are new cast members on the latest “Pirates” movie, taking the place of head-liners Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley.

Bloom, among other things, has a wedding on his agenda. On Monday, his representatives told celebrity news outlets the 33 year-old actor is engaged to Victoria’s Secret model Miranda Kerr. [Source]
