Johnny Depp and Mia Wasikowska Sign on for ‘Alice in Wonderland 2′

Posted by Staff with No Comments

Movie will come out on Memorial Day weekend in 2016

The stars of the 2010 film Alice in Wonderland, Johnny Depp and Mia Wasikowska, have officially signed on to reprise their roles as the Mad Hatter and Alice Kingsleigh, respectively, in Alice in Wonderland 2. The movie is scheduled to come out on May 27th, 2016.

Director Tim Burton, however, is not returning. Instead, director James Bobbin (The Muppets, Flight of the Conchords) will helm the picture. Disney announced the news today, according to the Hollywood Reporter, as well as a live-action adaptation of The Jungle Book to be directed by Jon Favreau and set for an October 9th, 2015 release date.

Earlier this year, Depp announced that he might retire from acting sooner rather than later. “I wouldn’t say that I’m dropping out any second,” he said in July, “but I would say that’s probably not too far away.”

Similarly, in a June Rolling Stone cover story, he said, “I think while I’ve got the opportunity and the desire and the creative spark to do the things that I can do right now, I should do them. And then, at a certain point, just take it down to the bare minimum and concentrate on, I guess, living life. Really living life.” His only movie in 2013 was The Lone Ranger, in which he played Tonto. Next year, he will star in a sci-fi movie called Transcendence that he was filming in Albuquerque when Rolling Stone caught up with him. [Source]

‘Mortdecai’ Movie Release 2014 Starring Johnny Depp, Gwyneth Paltrow & Ewan McGregor with Director David Koepp

Posted by Staff with No Comments

Johnny Depp is currently shooting the new movie Mortdecai in 2014 with director David Koepp.

The film will be based on Kyril Bonfiglioli’s comedic crime novel “The Great Mortdecai Moustache Mystery”, the script is written by Eric Aronson.

The new movie will also star Ewan McGregor, Olivia Munn, Gwyneth Paltrow and Paul Bettany.

Plot: Juggling some angry Russians, the British Mi5, his impossibly leggy wife and an international terrorist, debonair art dealer and part-time rogue Charlie Mortdecai (Depp) must traverse the globe armed only with his good looks and special charm in a race to recover a stolen painting rumored to contain the code to a lost bank account filled with Nazi gold.

The 50-year-old actor is using a stunt double in the film who was also on hand recently to film scenes in which the character gets hit by a car and flies onto the windshield.

While the film is still shooting and so clearly not finished, they did play some early footage at the American Film Market festival last week and the response was very positive over all. No release date has been officially set yet. Read the rest of this entry »

Johnny Depp’s Production Company Signs On For Shakespeare Project

Posted by Staff with No Comments

Another potential series is looking to bring Shakespeare into the modern age and onto television. This time the series would offer characters and plotlines taken from a variety of Shakespeare’s best known plays, rather than focusing on just one as previous projects have done. The project comes from Johnny Depp’s production company as well as the producers of the original The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo films.

The series would draw on characters and situations in a selection of Shakespeare’s plays, Deadline says, bringing them into modern situations and adding to the stories. There’s no word yet concerning which plays will be chosen to get the modern treatment. The project seems to be part of a slew of recent Shakespeare-inspired projects that includes a modern version of ofHamlet at Fox and an updated version of West Side Story over at ABC (which is, of course, originally based on Romeo and Juliet). Julia Roberts also recently sold a comedy called The Taming of the Shrew to ABC, which borrows a Shakespeare title but not the plot.
